What is Sustainable Tourism?
The Global Sustainable Tourism Council describes sustainable tourism as the adoption of responsible practices across the tourism industry. It emphasizes the importance of understanding tourism’s full range of effects—both beneficial and harmful. The goal is to reduce its negative consequences while amplifying its positive contributions.

What can we do to support eco-tourism? We can focus on promoting sustainable tourism practices that enhance environmental awareness and preserve natural ecosystems, wildlife, and cultural heritage. This includes fostering investment in eco-tourism initiatives, encouraging the growth of small and medium-sized enterprises, and providing financial support through microcredit programs for local and indigenous communities. Such initiatives are highlighted by The Department of Economic and Social Affairs of The United Nations.

The list below includes simple steps we can take with minimal effort:
1. SLOW TOURISM
Slow tourism is an emerging trend, moving away from the fast-paced era of trying to visit as many places as possible or simply checking in and sharing photos on social media. Taking a more leisurely approach to travel allows for self-reflection, meaningful interactions with local communities, and authentic experiences. This movement toward slow and ecotourism also emphasizes sustainable practices, contributing to a reduction in the environmental impact of your journey.
2. ZERO PAPER WASTE
Embrace sustainable travel, a responsible and cost-free approach to exploring the world. With the widespread adoption of digitalization, electronic tickets and confirmations are widely accepted by companies and institutions. Hotels are actively encouraged to implement digital invoices and other electronic documents, reducing the need for printing. If you must use paper, prioritize recycling to ensure it is repurposed into new items. 3. SAVE WATER
On average, it takes 30 minutes to clean a hotel room, utilizing 35 liters of water, 100 ml of chemical products, and 1.5 kWh of electricity. Certain hotels are actively participating in sustainable programs that contribute to environmental conservation. For instance, some establishments plant a tree each time guests opt to forgo room cleaning during stays exceeding one night.
